Chronic Fatigue

Thu, October 12, 2017 10:07 AM

HI,
Mom of 16-yo girl with CD who has never been in remission.  She has chronic fatigue.  Is there anything anyone does or takes to have more energy?  She leads a very active lifestyle with activities, clubs and sports, but the minute she gets home, she becomes a zombie and most time she cannot even remove her clothes before falling off to sleep or she cannot wake up to have dinner.  Thanks.

There could be numerous reasons why she has chronic fatigue. First, is she anemic? Anemia is a condition that is linked to crohn's and colitis which involve low levels of hemoglobin in the blood due to some internal bleeding. If she is not anemic, then does she get enough sleep at night? Teenagers need at least eight hours of sleep each night, so make sure she is getting enough sleep.  Make sure she is eating the right kinds of foods such as foods that have a lot of carbohydrates and B vitamins which may help boost energy. Lastly, it is always best to be checked out by a specialist if this is something that contiues.

Hope this helps!
