Hello all,
I am new to this group, thank you for having me. My son has been on Remicaid for about 5 years now and has done very well. He has, in the past 6-8 months, been showing signs of a flare. He has had BRB with bowel movements and feeling of pressure in rectum. Colonoscopy showed a flare in distal rectum and lab work showed antibody formation to Remicaid. He is now 17, but still under the care of peds GI until July. The GI is recommending adding methotrexate to decrease the AB formation and extend the life of the Remicad. I know that it is prescribed at a lower dose than for chemo, but it comes with some serious, irreversible risks. The GI made mention that there were more medicines available for adults with CD. I wonder if it is worth waiting until July and get another opinion?
I wonder if anyone else is in the same situation? Have you had any serious side effects? What were your reasons for starting or not starting the combination therapy? Did the combination actually help suppress the Ab formation and for how long?
Thank you in advance for your feedback!

I wish I had more to say for your son as I don’t have a lot of experience with this, but I felt compelled to say something on one aspect of your post. If your concerned about something, and mind you I’m no expert, it never hurts to get a second opinion or a Dr who will listen to your concerns. There are many other treatment options that hopefully don’t move into the irreversible zone.
I know now this isn’t the response you probably want or need, but again, take the time to find the right Dr.
