Inflammation?

Mon, April 02, 2018 7:14 PM

Let me start off to say that back in the fall, I had my first flare up since my original diagnosis 6 years ago. My symptoms were not that bad; just some weight loss and an ocassional abdominal discomfort. My bowel movements were not that great and would be pretty watery. So, in January, I went in for a colonoscopy, and was told that there is inflammation throughout my entire colon. So, they put me on prednisone and in a few days I felt a lot better and back to myself. After two weeks, they began to taper me off the prednisone and they prescribed me 6mp. I now have fully tapered off the prednisone and am on 6mp and colzal. I went in for a blood test last week and the results showed everything was normal except for inflammation. Some of the symptoms from before my colonoscopy such as abdominal discomfort are coming back. Did I taper off the prednisone too quickly? This has me concerned because I have been on 6mp for just over a month and it seems as if it is not working, and if it is not working, what's next? I am very frustrated because I was feeling so much better when I was on the prednisone, and now that I am off it, my symptoms are coming back. I just want this to be in remission for good.

Hi, Just curious if you have tried CBD for the inflammation? There are no side effects and you can even stay on with with your other meds (ok with dr of course) I know Prednisone is a very powerful and effective drug and it seems to work for so many applications but is also has it's share of side effects...especially when you wean off of it. Much luck to you in your journey.

Prednisone was the only drug that worked for my ulcerative colitis.  I eventually had my colon removed.  Now I have Crohn’s and am on Entyvio for it.  I am always fatigued

I'm coming out of  a long remission and just started my first round of prednisone in about 10 years. The inflammation has got to be bad. My pain has decreased but my fatigue is just awful. I feel you- but it's true about the adrenal shut down. That's worse. Good luck to you. Hope your docs can find something that works well for you.

You have to taper off the prednisone because it shuts down the adrenal glands, and you can’t be on it too long because of the nasty side effects.  It was the only thing that worked for me, but I was on it too long and broke out in hives when I quit it.  Although some people do tolerate prednisone fairly well.  Look for another drug to treat your disease
