Mucous

Ok, so I know I should be talking to my doctor about this but I procrastinate and let things go too long so I figured I’d ask here first. For the past few months (maybe 6?) I’ve been having a lot of mucous. I feel like I have to have a bm and al that comes out is foul smelling tannish yellow sometimes clear mucous (without actual stool) about 10 times a day. I can’t even pass gas without it coming out so I have to make sure I’m always near a bathroom. I usually have about one bm a day that includes this mucous stuff with stool. I’ve been on humira about 8 years and for the last two I kind of slacked and didn’t always take it as often as I was supposed to. Do you think this sounds like a flat or is it something more worrisome like an abcess or stricture??

Hi there,

I had this when I had IBD symptoms and it all turned out to be due to Candida. The yeast looks like mucus. Now I can tell if I have a little bit of yeast overgrowth due to how much mucus is there. As I worked toward being symptom-free over the course of a few years, I could see the mucous diminishing along with all of my other symptoms leaving. I highly recommend getting a stool sample test to check yeast levels in your GI tract. Also experimenting with a diet that doesn't feed yeast can give you an idea if this is maybe a cause.

Good luck!

My husband had this happen to him and ignored it for a very long time. Eventually blood came with the mucous and then later the pain. I would definitely talk to a doctor. They will most like do a colonoscopy.

I’ve had simmilar symptoms in the past years pre and post humira.

After bringing it up and the surgeons, specialists and GP taking through it they put me on a temp loading dose of humira + added in a higher dose of 6MP and the symptoms were gone within a few days.

Not it sure if it’s the same or of any help but I find it’s worth pushing the drs to try and communicate with other parts of the team. It’s really confusing getting different pieces of information and trying to build them to a solid solution.

Hi there,
you would usually be having other symptoms like fever chills, high white cell count if it was an abscess. I have recently had this issue and the doctors told me it was a motility issue with my bowels and thats common with crohns. Basically I lowered my fat intake and got a prescription acid blocker for my stomach and it seems to have helped. Hope this helps you.
