Symptom help - could use some help!

Hello everyone,

I am very new to the forum and am happy there is somewhere other than reddit that I can ask some questions. Anyway, I really hope someone may be able to shed some light on what's going on with me:

Backstory: experienced two bouts of a flare (Sept 2017 to October 2017 then April 2018 to May 2018) before I had my colonoscopy in May at which point my GI diagnosed me with Colitis-symptoms and prescribed Mesalamine. The lialda (mesalamine) Started working within 5 days and my blood and diarrhea went away. Fast foward four months later and I start seeing streaks of blood in my stools which eventually led to blood on the paper and some light dripping (NO PAIN and NO DIARRHEA).

At the beginning of November I increased my dose of mesalamine without consulting my GI (from four to five a day) to see if that would help - it didn't and I seem to have contracted some type of rash. I finally went in this past week to see my GI and he said that I have a case of internal hemorroids (he did not phsically check) and prescribed a suppository which I have not filled because I am very against taking multiple medicines. I have been using cannabis to control my symptoms and when I do it seems to make my gut and stomach feel great.

Any ideas on what's going on? Any suggestions at all?

Best,

Ulcerative colitis sucks! Ihave had it for 4 years now. What I have learned is gi guys only want to scope you and give you a prescription.
I happened to come across a gen physician who suffered fro colitis and he prescribed me budesonide. No side effects and works great. Get a written rx and go to canadapharmacy.com, you can get it for $1/capsule, In the USA is $10-$20/capsule.
I am a dentist and medical author. I have found that anti inflamatories do not stop flare ups. Inflamation results from a flare up.
My problem now is bloating and hiccups. I might go to see a doc ( I am a veteran) to only ask about bloating. I want quality of life and gi specialists seem to only care about scoping you which is NOT necessary for a proper diagnosis.

Flares would normally last a couple weeks.  I used various things like Presnisone (small dosage for 7-10 days) or suppository type things.  I have it easy compared to most as my UC is mild.  Once back in remission, 3 Lialda daily work.

Symptoms of my flares (which I am experiencing now) are the restroom issues (no blood), fatigue, stomach pain/discomfort, etc.  Usually about 50% of the “symptoms of a flare-up.”

Hey!

thanks for the reply... they WERE my only symptoms... for the past few days things seem to be improving. When you flare with lialda how long does it last? Did you get just blood and mucous or was there diarrhea too?

i have a feeling that you are right- lialda does work most of the time but there is a small chance of relapse? Or mimicked symptoms perhaps not 100% flare but 50% or something?

Hi Dani - Are those your only symptoms?  I too am on Lialda and works great 99% of the time.  Every now and then will catch a flare up and it takes something to get it back in remission.
