Cramps and urgency to go to toilet

Wed, May 01, 2019 2:47 AM

Hi just wondered if anyone has any advice on stopping the urgency to go to the toilet . It's fine at home but not at work ect when just comes on all of a sudden . I seem to pass wind then it's run time to the toilet but then other times I pass wind and don't need to go put the panic of thinking I might need the toilet makes me go anyway . I'm waiting on starting injections next week so hopefully they will sort it all out anyway just thought I'd ask if anyone else has this problem :)

Have two re-section and gall bladder removed...took Pentassa 2 caps four times per day.  Diarreah had taken over my life.  I found that the Pentassa was causing the diareah.  Ck all meds to be sure that some of them might be causing problem.

You are certainly not alone with this. This is one of the worst/hardest parts of IBD of course aside from a full on flare. I use mesalamine rectal suspension enemas because my disease is on the left side of my colon and in my rectum. When I do those regularly it helps with the urgency. However it can still happen. When things are bad I try to stay close to a bathroom even if that means I am at work. If I have to be out of the house for a while and I am not feeling well (having urgency/diarrhea) I try to eat carefully or less sometimes that helps. I try to drink a lot of water so I don't get dehydrated which can happen so easily. I wish I had a great trick to make it go away. I would talk with your health provider if you are having this regularly because maybe your treatment method can be adjusted to help with the urgency. Breathing and trying to stay as relaxed as possible is also good. Exercising when possible helps to releive a lot of stress and anxiety I have. However if you are not feeling well enought to exercise I do understand that, that advice can sound like a joke. I hope you find some releif.

I hear you loud and clear . Been there for the last year . I find that if I take 2 lomotil an hour before I have to go out it helps curb the frequency and urgency .I take it sparingly however   I don't want my body to become immune to its effect s
