Mouth issues with Chrohn's

Wed, August 21, 2019 11:05 AM

I have been manging my symptons well recently, on Mesalamine which seems to be working (however random, very bad headaches).

However, I had a 'mini' flare over the weekend, and whenever I get a falre I get inflamation in my mouth. My mouth becomes very inflamed and I get mouth ulcers. Which take an age to heal.

Does anyone else get mouth issues at all? If so, how have you treated them?

Thank you.

I've since said I'm not taking the injections waiting on going back to hospital to see what the suggest next . Just can't seem to find anything that works and doesn't give me bad side effects causING more problems . Hope you get better soon

I started the Pentasa ( mesalazine) 2 weeks ago and then I got an inflammed and sore throat, a slight sneeze and cough nothing major so Dr said I got a throat infection.... but the other things have gone and left with inflammed mouth ( mainly the back ) and irritated throat. Also glands in throat still swollen and had some neck and shoulder pain. So not sure if it's the meds or not.

I’m dealing with sores on my tongue. I’m on the same meds and have been searching for side effects thinking that it was the meds. Interesting that it’s crohn’s that seems to be causing it.

I had the same issue couple of months ago and doctor suggested me a special month wash and it really helped.

Hi! You are not alone-- I have Crohn's and also get mouth sores when my inflammation gets worse. I haven't really found anything that works for me besides trying to stick to a bland diet and maybe getting on prednisone if things get really bad. But sometimes they just clear up on their own out of the blue. I hope you feel better and find something that works for you!

When I first came down with ulcerative colitis I broke out in sores in my entire mouth . THere is an oral gel that is over the counter that is a numbing agent. You also might look into herpes medications.
