Keeping up my active lifestyle while dealing with incontinence

Tue, October 27, 2020 8:33 AM

This is the second support group where I've asked this and gotten zero response. Not even someone who understands because they deal with it too. Please tell me why you are not commenting.

I want to be able to leave my house, spend the day hiking, road trip with my sisters, anything & have this minimally impact my life. What are some tips/tricks you have learned to conceal this gross side effect?
Curious how people stay active with fecal incontinence. I love to walk, hike or use my treadmill. It's becoming increasingly difficult as I never know when it's going to hit. I know that there are products that I could wear, but still..........the rest of my walk/hike would NOT be pleasant. At least my treadmill is in my house.

My stools need to stay liquid or else I become completely blocked on my left side. Nothing, no air or stool will pass the one point, it's extremely painful, doubles me over, bloats my belly & my belly gets hard & distended. After several hours, things begin moving, immense amounts of air & some stool, and relief of pain follow. For this reason, my GI doc prescribes 34GM of Miralax 2X per day. I've been taking this dose for many years. Yes it gives me liquid stools but it's only in the past 6 months or so that I have no control. Even at home, I can have 1-5 accidents each morning then occasionally at various times throughout the day.

Other than that, my Crohn's symptoms are controlled by Lialda. 2 pills a day when I'm feeling good, 3-4 a day if I feel a relapse coming on.
