Sleep

I've had UC for over a decade now. Medication, diet, exercise, etc have all helped, but not to the point of going into remission. I've been able to manage my life around UC, with difficulty, but it's not like I have a choice. Anyway, one constant in all this that I have not been able to control is sleep deprivation. I'm sure you can all relate, my body wakes me up a number of times during the night to go to the bathroom. I never get any solid sleep. Now that I'm older and in the middle of a flare of unknown reasons, I am having a really hard time physically and mentally dealing with the lack of sleep. Sleeping pills don't seem to be a good solution for many reasons. Any words of wisdom?

I’ve had those sleep issues ever since I was diagnosed with UC.  Ambien has been a lifesaver for me, but apparently it is not for everyone.  I don’t usually have a problem going to sleep but rather staying asleep.  If it’s 3am and I know I’m not going to get back to sleep, I’ll take a half a pill.  Over the counter sleep aids may help.
