UC and C. Diff

Tue, February 12, 2019 8:14 AM

Hello, everyone! UC was my diagnosis in 2016. My symptoms began as chronic constipation in late 2014 and snowballed from there. Now, I have an active flare plus this is my second bout of C. Diff. (Yay!) I am focused on disinfecting everything. I buy hospital grade PDI Sanicloth with bleach wipes, Clorox Fuzion and can't wait to use my new Ladybug with TANCS (steam cleaner approved by EPA). Managing these illnesses isn't always easy. I literally feel like a walking C. Diff distributor. Super bugs are no fun. Currently, I'm on Vancomycin, Azathioprine, and Balsalazide. Mesalamine suppositories are a sometimes thing. I also supplement with probiotics. Wish me luck that I win the war once and for all. Cheers from Forsyth county, Georgia!

Hey jenn718!

it's been a few weeks, but i just wanted to see how you're doing. How are your symptoms and the C.Diff? have you seen any improvements?

Hi! Months ago, my C. diff landed me two weeks in the hospital. My antibiotic usage lasted for a month which is also the plan this time around. Reluctantly on steroids now too. I feel a bit better and see a reduction in blood loss. Also, medically restricted from working at the preschool for another two weeks for the safety of the kiddos. Flares suck and I hope that you continue to see improvement with that medicine you're on. I like getting to know you since we've had such similar struggles. I'm here anytime! Thank you!

hey Jenn718!

I know the germaphobeness all too well! I am currently 9 months into my first real flare-up since I had C.Diff. and 6 months on new medication and I think I'm finally starting to see some improvement, which is hopeful. I did have a C.Diff scare last Nov. but the results came back negative.

How are you doing currently? Any relief at all from the antibiotics?

KRiegel, I'm so glad I'm not alone and you've been where I currently am. It's tough when others don't understand my germaphobe behaviors! :) What is your health journey like now? Thank you for your words of encouragement!

Thanks for the info on the Poop Tracker app! That seems super handy.

I'm sorry to hear about the C.Diff :( I've been through it once and I never want to see that again. I hope you heal soon and never have to deal with it again!

Hang in there, OP. You and your body are stronger than you think.

Forgot to add I also have a "Poop Tracker" app installed on my phone. It gives me a good glimpse on details like: amount, presence of blood, consistency, pain, urgency, and you can add additional notes. It's an easier way for me to communicate accurate bathroom visits to my doctor. I'm learning as I go along and I hope you guys find some of this helpful. Thank you.
