Colitis and working during a pandemic

Tue, April 28, 2020 6:05 AM

I have had UC for 23 yrs and take 2 immunosuppressant meds. With Covid 19 prevalent in our community, this makes me at increased risk of contracting the virus and suffering more if I was to get it. I work as a human services manager and my boss insists that I work at the office even though I feel I can effectively perform my job at home. There already was a case of Covid 19 at my office. I even considered going off my meds so I can do my job at the office to lower my risk of contracting the virus. My Dr wrote me a medical note saying he recommends that I work from home which did not go over well because the wording said "recommend" that I stay home. I had to get the wording of the letter changed 3x to state that I must stay home. Still they are not allowing me to work from home and I have been denied FMLA paperwork. My boss is comparing my condition to his which is diabetes as an example that I should continue to work in the office. In order to maintain my health, I may be out of a job soon at a place I have been for 22 years without a write up. Anyone else having issues with employers not understanding needs of those on immunosuppressants while being exposed to Covid in the workplace?

I am in a very similar situation. Not sure what is going to happen with work but right now I can't even get out of bed

That sounds very stressful. How has it been working out for you? I've been fortunate so far in that I've been allowed to work from home for the last 2 1/2 months, while taking care of my 2 small kids at home. I don't know how long it will continue but I am sure I will have anxiety when I am asked to return. My oldest is supposed to start kindergarten in August and I am already getting anxious about sending her. I've been on Remicade since 2013 and haven't felt the need to visit this site since I was first diagnosed. Nothing like a worldwide pandemic to bring out the anxiety!
