Discouraged about weight loss

Mon, July 15, 2019 7:31 PM

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when I was 13, but luckily, I had not had a real flare until now. I am 20, and this summer I have been showing GI symptoms for 3 months. My condition appears ot be getting worse too. I have 8-10 small loose stools each day, cramping, spasms, nausea, and most importantly: appetite loss. I have always been quite petite, and as a teen I always wanted to be taller and fatter. I wanted to gain weight, always. But I have, and always have had, a super fast metabolism.

As I grew, I settled at the weight of 115-117lbs and it stayed like that for the past 3+ years. When my flare started 3 months ago, I knew I was going to lose some weight. But since I had never had a flare before, I wasn't sure how much or how fast. About one month ago, I weighed in at 107. Today I weigh in at 103 (a 12-14 pound weightloss). WHICH is very visible to the eye on a tiny gal like me.

I know that others are going through much worse than what I am going through, but if I see that scale dip into the 90s I will lose my mind!

I am frustrated, discouraged, and I feel hopeless because it took me so many years to gain the weight that I had. Now I lost so much of it, and I don't like my body as much at all. I'm worried I'll never gain it back, because I already have a fast metabolism to start with.... and I'm worried it will take a reallly, really long time to gain back, only to be followed by another flare.

Please tell me that it's possible to gain it back!?!?! Also I am wondering about foods that are very nutricious, with a LOT of calories that are easy for Crohns (besides nutrition shakes cause i'm already doing that)

I can feel you.  As I wanted to gain weight, I started eating everything, sweet and fatty, regardless of whether it was healthy or not. I gained weight quickly but then quickly lost weight again. If you want to lose or gain weight, always choose healthy foods (preferably fatty) such as nuts, some types of fish, yogurts, whole grains and the like. I personally love nuts and when I don't want to gain weight I only eat a handful a day. Meditation, weight loss affirmations, and other mindfulness techniques help too. Again, please always think of your health first. And if your goal is to gain weight, choose healthy, fatty options instead of fast food or sugary drinks.

Yeah, I got discouraged about weight loss once, and that's why I read an article at http://prettymomguide.com/take-your-diet-fitness-and-weight-loss-to-the-next-level.html which motivated me. Now, I am determined to lose weight.

A few months ago, I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Before this diagnosis I also have a high metabolism that causes a rapid heartbeat with medication this helps my heart beat at a regular pace. Also, I have my thyroids checked regularly. I weighed 97 lbs before my diagnosis I had to find foods/snacks that would be better for my stomach. I began eating sugar-free/ low calorie snacks while eating food that I was able to digest easy . I would avoid anything with sugar and fried foods for a while. I had to be patient with myself because it did take time for to gain weight. But You can do it!!
