Probiotics?

Mon, July 29, 2019 9:06 AM

Hi everyone. I have had Crohn's for about 12 years now, I am on Infliximab infusions. I am always getting infections due to my low immune system. At the moment I'm on antibiotics for a skin infection, so i was wondering should i be taking probiotics? Have any of you been on them? Do they help? Any information you have would be appreciated. Thanks for reading :)

Hi,
My 15-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's disease last October. She gets her infusion every eight weeks. Her GI doctor recommended probiotic from the beginning of her being diagnosed, and the probiotics have helped her a lot and she has notice a difference. She also gets infections frequently. She takes the refrigerated 100 billion probiotics. I’ve done some research and would recommend taking probiotics specially when taking antibiotics. A good healthy organic diet makes a world of difference too. I hope this helps.

I just had a flare up these past 2 weeks, so bad it caused a perianal abcess. I was on flagyl and agumentin.  I was a nervous wreck due to the abcess not popping and having to go get cut/lanced  yet again. I am so sick of this crohns disease.  Salt baths help the abcess pop on its own. Sometimes nothing helps and you need to visit a rectal surgeon.  It's terrible.

To answer your question... yes prebiotics (banannas) and probiotics (Dannon Activia Yogurt) should be taken while on antibiotics.  The key is to ingest these pre/probiotics 3 hours after taking an antibiotic.  Very important to take them daily after you finish your antibiotics.
