Introduction and advice

Tue, August 27, 2019 11:55 AM

Hi all!

I'm Mark. I'm 32 now but I was 16 when I was diagnosed. I'm from England but currently live in Madrid. I'm guessing from the registration process that most users here are Americans, right?

Anyway I just wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations of things to eat and avoid regarding food as I've always struggled with this.

Thanks!

Mark

Hi, I was diagnosed this year. At the moment I am with the flares. I have been with flares for about 6 months. Rigth now I am testing food and tolerating certain foods:
Food you  should avoide during flares: dairy products (milk, cheese, butter) seeds, spicy food, junk food, legumes as chickpeas, lentis, peas fruits  and food with high insoluble fiber ( avocado, whole white grains, cereals, strawberries, uncooked vegetables as (brocolli, cucumber) instead you should try food with soluble fiber ( cooked carrots, rice, sweet potatoes, pumpink)
Rigth now I start eating eggs, chicken, fish, (steam, cook or grilled, rice, potatoes, zucchinni, pumpkin, beetroot ) well tolerated
avocado, coconut milk, legums, onion, lettuce, cabbage( it produces me a lot  toxic gases, sometimes my tommy gets upset, it doesn´t cause diaherrea but I have some much gases) so now I try not to eat them frequently
Fruits (oranges, bananas, grapes, peaches, mango) well tolerated.
I can advice you have a diary food journal when you can write the symptoms and the time of occurance. I have read a lot and there are to many options, you can follow a FOMAP DIET but there is not an specific diet.  I have read you should not eat beetroot but my nutricionist told me to try it becuase  I was with anemia and it has lot of nutitions facts and vitamins and I tolerated really well this, so if you tolerate certain food why to keep this away from your diet, all the bodies doesnt react the same with the food.

Hi there only advice I can give you is to eat food that doesn't cause any flare up with the Crohn's or Colitis that you have. Try to avoid food with seeds and High fiber foods while you are having a flare.

Hi Mark,

I find that spicy foods, dairy products kill my gut and trigger flare ups.  Smoking also cause me to flare-up.  It also seems stress makes me flare-up, and it seems another trigger is sitting in the heat/humidity.

My last flare-up was caused by fresh cut watermelon. Go figure. It gave me the runs and then i formed a perianal abcess. Everyone's gut is different, so you should keep a food diary of what makes you flare-up.  Also keep record of what happens to your body during the flare-up.  Anal abcess, cramps, joint pain.

My flare-up starts with diariha then joint pain then anal abcess.  It's horrible and im sick of it.  I was in remissioin for 2yrs then this happend a few weeks ago.

Good luck mate.
