What to eat

Tue, December 10, 2019 7:53 PM

Diagnosed recently with UP.  My body is in a constant ping pong game with itself in terms of how it reacts to different food.  Constipation = foods with more fiber = very loose stools = white grains, bland foods = constipation.  This can happen within 24 hours. Add to that high food allergies to milk, shellfish (so all fish is out due to possible cross-contamination in stores), and tree nuts.  Open to suggestions....

I have Crohn's disease and psoriasis (and associated arthritis).  I ate a "healthy" gluten free diet for years with mixed success that included veggies, salmon, some dairy.  I have followed a whole foods plant based diet for 4 years now and all my symptoms went away within weeks, including arthritis.  I eat a mix of cooked/raw veggies, fruits, legumes, whole grains, some nuts and seeds. I don't use oil or eat any processed foods, alcohol, coffee, and keep refined sugar to a minimum.  Wheat used to kill me with cramps that would fold me over. I have reintroduced whole wheat slowly with no more symptoms since the WFPB diet. There is increasing evidence from scientific studies that eating animal foods introduce harmful gut bacteria that compete with the good bacteria that thrives on plant fiber.  I would recommend watching the documentaries "Forks over Knives" (Netflix) and "Food Choices" (Amazon) to get started. Get WFPS cookbooks (healthy ones, vegan cooking is not always healthy). If you can I would recommend you find a doctor or naturopath who will encourage you to eat WFPB (I finally found one after 4 years) I hope your symptoms go away!

reccomend totally cutting out anything that messes up your gut,   start with a good elimination diet like the beginning steps of "the Specific Carbohydrate Diet" or from the book 'Listen to your gut'   to find what foods are best for you.
