I can't eat anything healthy

Tue, March 24, 2020 4:07 AM

Had Colitis for about4 years now and only mild symptoms. The past few months I've foudn it harder and harder to eat any fruit or veg without getting pains, very soft poop and horrible smelly gas. Is this something that will pass? Any tips on veg that is more manageable. I've tried quite a few but with no luck. Worried about the lack of vitamins etc. I am getting.

Certainly everyones experiences and reaction to foods and other influences is different, but I find that once the flare starts subsiding I can go back to a healthy diet.

It sucks that you are having an issue with healthy foods have you tried adding terramin clay to your diet? I have suffered from Crohn's diease for 14 years. I was also missed diagnosed with Ulceractive colritis. I have been in remission for the past 5 years by making simple changes to my diet. It's crazy what a few food swaps to help control my flare ups and symptoms. There's no specific diet it's all about knowing your food intolerances. I just shared a video on my YouTube on food swaps i made that helped me control my symptoms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MWksa0kM4o&t=88s  I go in depth about why i made each swap. When i was going though my flare i wish i had someone to make it easy for me to know what i should and shouldn't eat. I hope this helps you.

Hello I was diagnosed with colitis with mild symptoms last year. I went through that same experience with trying different vegetables. In my experience, I tried more softer foods such fish fillet, salmon, or chicken, and tuna that were easy to prepare and digest. I had chose black eye peas, and Lima beans for vegetables. This really helped my appetite. I would cook the beans until softened with rice to easier to digest. GOOD LUCK!!

Some background from myself long-term sufferer, may be useful... I was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago, I have had over the years relatively serious symptoms but have never been hospitalised and most of the time, my symptoms in the grand scheme of things could be considered relatively mild.
Most of the time I can eat pretty much anything, but my lifestyle preference is for healthy plant-based with some meat/fish. I just love healthy foods.
When I've done the wrong thing, I end up in a flare and need to go back to less-healthy diet of bland food, avoiding many healthy things I'd typically want to eat.
Certainly everyones experiences and reaction to foods and other influences is different, but I find that once the flare starts subsiding I can go back to a healthy diet.
I am pretty convinced, that my UC is linked to gut and mind health, which can reciprocate and perpetuate eachother for good or bad.  Getting back to a healthy diet in my case, feeding good gut bacteria with good food and plenty of fibre is key. But if I do this 'in' a flare, it can get much worse.. I have just learned that tipping point to start the healthy diet again
Happy to chat more...
