Hi! This is my first post. I was diagnosed with Crohns a little over a year ago. I have been hospitalized once and started Humira. About 2 months later, I had to add mercaptopurine. I am doing ok but I would like to feel better. I have joint stiffness (not pain). I can't run like I used to. My skin and hair texture has changed. I am fatigued in the afternoon. Sometimes, I feel like a can't put a sentence together. My sleep has completely changed. I have restless leg and lower back pain. I was referred for a lupus work up but it was negative. I feel bad complaining because I am doing ok but I am wondering if this is the best it can be. I want energy. My doctor is not holistic and as long as the Humira is keeping me out of the hospital then everything is ok. She tells me that there is no evidence that diet can help. I went to a functional medicine specialist and got a stool analysis. The analysis showed high levels of several types of bacteria that shouldn't be high and I now have a slew of supplements to take to clean out the bad bacteria to make way for the good. I am worried about how these supplements will interact with Humira and mercaptopurine. I will ask my GI doctor but I feel she is going to dismiss this whole plan. I am not sure that I trust the functional medicine specialist. She is not a Crohn's expert. I am wondering if any of you have gone down this path and if you would mind sharing your experience. How did you find out if the supplements are safe or did you just take the leap?

Vitamins and micronutrients have been well studied by serious labs. https://immunedefence.info/studies Some are anti-oxidants that will help to prevent mutations (and therefore cancer), some are co-enzymes that are necessary for metabolic activity. Think about iron in the hemoglobin (blood), for example. If you're lacking iron, you'll be anemic.
