People Judging Me

Mon, April 03, 2017 6:55 PM

I was diagnosed with CD at the beginning of this school year but I also experienced the symptoms over summer. I am 16 years old, and being in high school and dealing with this disease is very very hard for me. I have symptoms daily which for me includes alot of vomiting, which in that case I don't go to school. The school and the people that are in it that I go to are not supporting at all. The students talk bad about me for missing so much school even though they know I have this disease. I have since lost all my friends just from distancing themselves away from me. I am not sure what to do I just need someone who understands to talk to. Thank you.

Hi đź‘‹
my name is Harry from the uk
I'm 20 and was diagnosed at 14
i had to miss a lot of school and sometimes months at a time and students would gossip and ask questions why etc. The truth is at high school it's bound to happen, I ended up letting people who were close to me what was wrong with me and to others who I felt may not understand completely I just told them I was ill
and if it brings you down what people may say about you or anything whilst you are ill which it did to me, the thing to remember is that high school is only going to be a couple more years of your life and when it's over you have the choice to never speak or hear from those people again so it's really not worth dwelling on what they might be saying about you.
Hope this helps.

Hey my name is Sam, I'm fifteen years old and I was diagnosed Ulcerative Colitis in 2013, and have recently been diagnosed with crohns now. I wanted to tell you that I know your pain. I have been told many times that I'm faking it and that I over dramatize my pain and suffering for attention. There are very few people that truly believe me. You will find someone who believes that you really are sick and they will be there for you. But you have to go through many people who are just awful, but you will find that one person who does believe you

I completely understand what you are talking about. I was diagnosed during High School and experienced something similar. My friends never understood what I was going through and it seemed like no one cared. It's hard for people to understand what we are going through unless they are going through the same thing or also have an autoimmune disease. I met several people with Crohn's on this forum that I have kept in touch with other the years on facebook and email. It has been really helpful to me because they completely UNDERSTAND. So I ended up talking to them about my issues and venting, and said absolutely nothing to my friends. I feel like it has helped me to have specific people to talk to, and then my friends that I was around on a normal basis I did not talk to at all about my health. People assume that we are complaining and they just don't care. It is really sad sad But absolutely finding someone to vent to is crucial! Otherwise it can get really stressful being around other people that just don't listen to you. If you need to talk, I am always here!
