First colonoscopy help!!

Hello! I am 17 years old and I am having my first colonoscopy done soon. I am very anxious about it and really want my boyfriend to come in the room with me as I get prepped and when I wake up. Does anyone know if he’ll be allowed to or is there some rule against it??

Do you really want your boyfriend there when they stick a camera up your butt? There’s a lot a flatulnce involved and there is no telling what you might say under sedation. I’d let the boyfriend sit in the waiting room rather than see you at your worst.

hi, 27 here and ive had maybe 6 done so far. You usually get a list of instructions on what to do before the procedure is done. Stuff such as no solid foods, clear liquids and to remeber to take the bowel prep solution and finish as much as you can several hours prior to the procedure. As far as having someone with you while its going on, there is just so far they are allowed to go in (per hospital rules). They will have a designated waiting area. The procedure is about 30 minutes, but takes a few hours to wake up and remove the IVC and stuff.

FYI, when taking the bowel prep solution, mix it with some sugar free lemon flavored powder. it makes it taste more tolerable.

I was also 17 when I got my first colonoscopy, and there is nothing to be worried about. The worst part is the prep the night before. As far as letting your boyfriend come in with you, it probably depends on the hospital you are going to, but my mom was allowed to be with me before they took me in :) hope this helps
