So sad!

Hello - I was diagnosed in October of 2017 with  Ulcerative Colitis. After my colonoscopy I was put on a one month regimen of Prednisone as well as Lialda. I am now off of the Prednisone but continue to take 4 pills per day of the Lialda. The problem I am having is very loose bowel movements, sometimes I cannot make it to the bathroom. Plus I have a terrible case of Rosacea which I understand can go hand and hand with Colitis. I am on medication from my Dermatologist for that but frankly I don't see the medication really doing anything. I was scheduled on 11/20 for bilateral knee replacement surgery however that was cancelled because the Ortho doc would not do surgery as long as I am on the Lialda. So now not only do I have bathroom issues and Rosacea, I can barely walk. This is all so depressing (even though I know there are people out there fighting bigger battles than this). I feel okay, no pain or anything, but I never feel really good. Guess I am just looking for someone else who may be experiencing the same thing. Has anyone else out there ever had Rosacea, and if so, what treatment did you receive? Is it normal to have loose bowels with the Lialda? I am so frustrated and am to the point where I would be perfectly happy to never leave the house again. Thanks in advance for any input, I greatly appreciate your thoughts!

Im sorry you are struggling. I was diagnosed in August of this year with UC. I understand your struggle. I had to change my diet completely and now I am changing it again.  Trying to find what works for you is the key. I just started the SCD diet and I hope it helps.

But it at first I only ate chicken and rice and drank protein smoothies. Some days it was just broth. The bathroom issues do get better, not completely, but better. Just try to Baby your gut. No dairy, no sugar, no raw veggies or fruit, and see if that helps. It did for me in the beginning.

Everyday is a challenge for you to conquer, but you will conquer it!

I would take Lomotil, on bad days I have used up to 8mg. Certain pain medications would slow this down (opiates). I know this sounds a bit drastic but you likely need the knee replacement, knees can be pretty disabling. Good Luck.
