Colitis

Thu, December 07, 2017 1:46 PM

Hi All,

I was just in the ER with a case of colitis, not UC but just colitis. They were unsure of how it happened (they think it was a viral foodborne illness) as there was a high white count that went back to normal the next day when I was released. I had been having stomach issues and assuming this is why. I was diagnosed with a hemorroid and an anal cyst (confirmed by primary and GI doctor) recently. I am currently on antibiotics and wanted to post to see if anyone had a similar situation. I just wanted to see if there was some support to clear my head.

Thanks everyone
Ryan

So I had a colonoscopy and they took back the diagnosis of colitis and said severe viral gastroenteritis. I have still felt ill for this whole month and even have vomitted a few times. My wife and 14 month old have also gotten sick with similar symptoms. I am not sure if its just severe stomach flu or what. I have small vein like swollen spots in my forearm that are painless to touch but my forearm itself is sore. Maybe I just have a terrible case of the flu, I dont even know anymore. :(

Hi there, be very careful of taking antibiotics, especially without the right probiotics in tandem. I’m very convinced antibiotics in your previous years are the cause of your condition.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.  I also had Colitis diagnosed several years ago after what the doctors thought was food poisoning.  After being in the hospital for a couple of days, I was released with directions for a high-fiber diet and Fibercon.  Fast-forward to 2016, and I developed Crohn's.  The doctors aren't sure why I had Colitis and then later developed Crohn's.  But now I can't take Fibercon anymore or eat high-fiber foods...
Not sure if that's helpful, but keep an eye on your symptoms in case something else appears.

Sorry, also to add...I have a SLIGHT allergy to wheat but it is not celiac. Could this be a culprit also??
