New Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis

Sat, April 14, 2018 1:48 AM

Hi, I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with UC following a colonoscopy. Having suffered with constant running to the toilet and lots of bleeding. Any way I have been taking my meds now for a full two weeks.

prednisole 6 daily tapering off every week
salofalk granules 3 x daily
vitamen D caps 4 daily

My symptoms are still the same and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Am I expecting to much too soon or should I be seeing some improvements in my symptoms by now??

Any experiences or opinions would be appreciated!!

Hello, I was just diagnosed with UC in February and can relate to your symptoms. I think this might depend on the severity of your UC. My UC was pretty severe, so lower doses of prednisone kept me stable for a while, but it was not until I received higher doses of steroids and found a medication that worked that I truly saw improvement. Of course, every case is different and this is not to say that I can 100% compare my situation with yours!

I would definitely have a conversation or phone call with your doctor if possible and be honest about your symptoms if they are still the same. If anything, I've learned this is so important. Wishing you the best. Things will get better!

Not Everyone responds the same way to the same meds.  Prednisone was the only thing that worked for me but you can’t stay on it long term.  You might want to look into some of the new biologics meds like Remicade or entyvio.  Good luck
