Road to diagnosis

Tue, August 07, 2018 11:16 AM

I just got diagnosed with Colitis and felt I needed to share my story.  I feel like my atypical symptoms can help other people to achieve diagnosis.  It started about one year and a half ago with sudden onset lowest and sacral joint, bilateral hip pain and left lower quadrant pain.  Pain worsened before period.  I have been to gynecologist, neurologist, rheumatologist, endocronologist, and my primary care and noone was able to put the pieces together.  I am an RN so originally thought I had ankylosing spondylitis but all tests were negative.  Low and behold AS is associated with colitis.  I finally git severe abdominal pain and was sent to ED by my primary care thinking I had diverticulitis.  This new symptom lead me to my gastroenterologist which did colonoscopy and I finally have a diagnosis and look forward to relief from the painI have been living with this past year!
