Hi all,
My mom, who turns 68 this week, was just diagnosed with Chron’s Disease. I’m trying to learn as much as I can to help but going down a rabbit hole of Google searches can be terrifying. Any tips or tricks that you can share would be greatly appreciated. She is going on Prednisone this week and eats a healthy diet. Wanted to see if anyone else here has dealt with diagnosis at this age and what we can expect.
Thank you for your help.

Sorry, you’re first post asked for tips or tricks for dealing with crohns. I must have misunderstood what you were looking for.

Thank you. We are not looking for any tricks — mostly just information to help us understand. From my understanding, it is uncommon for this disease to be diagnosed later in life and I'm looking for insight into any specific risks or things we should know about how Chron's affects people older than 60 years old. I researched quite a bit online and thought this would be a good place to ask for resources through the community boards. It is scary to not know the level of the disease or what to expect since it sounds like it takes so many forms specific to each person.

What sort of tricks are you
Looking for? Don’t know what her symptoms are, but some useful advice is for her to use the restroom before she goes out, and also as soon as she arrives at her destination. When out and about, always be aware of where the restrooms are.
Prednisone is only a temporary solution, the side effects are too severe, and she should be aware with prednisone, she will be hungry all the time. When I realized this I got rid of the sweets and stocked up on celery.
encourage her to check out the crohns and colitis website, there’s a lot of useful information here.
if there is a support group in your area, it can be very helpful to talk to,others going thru this, and to know she is not alone.
