Hi Gill,
Thank you for telling your story.  We are sorry to read about your struggles, and of course we are happy to read that you are receiving treatment and are seeing specialists to help manage your care.
Choosing the best treatment option is an important decision to make. Please know that you are not alone. It is natural to experience feelings of concern regarding medications and their side effects.  While all drugs have side effects, some more potent than others, you and your gastroenterologist should decide the proper course of treatment.   The medication your doctor is recommending has been on the market for over 20 years.  You will need to weigh the risk and benefits of treatment.   You can do this with more knowledge about treatment.
Treatment is customized and medications will affect each patient differently.  The three main goals of treatments for IBD are:

 • Achieving remission (defined as the absence of symptoms)
 • Maintaining remission (defined as preventing flare-ups of disease)
 • Improving quality of life (defined personally)
The more you learn about treatment, the less fear you might have, and then you can make a decision.

Learning about medications
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation has developed an online searchable tool where you can learn more about your disease specific medications. This IBD Medication Guide provides information about each medication including side effects, general explanatory videos, and factsheets http://www.ibdmedicationguide.org/
An additional resource to learn about the types of medications for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis can be found at: http://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/resources/types-of-medications.html.
If,  you want to talk or vent please call our toll-free number at 1.888.MY.GUT.PAIN (1.888.694.8872), Monday through Friday 9am-5pm EST to speak with an information specialist.  You can also email us your specific questions at: info@crohncolitisfoundation.org

As a freelance writer, I needed a professionally designed portfolio to showcase my work. I found a reputable website https://www.jpost.com/ that offered pre-made portfolio templates for writers. The templates were visually appealing and helped me create a polished portfolio in no time.

It will be very interesting for me to know the period of human history in which no human has died of any disease, I am very happy to know that you have decided on your treatment in spite of all the worries which will be very useful for eradicating your disease.
