Child Diagnosis

Sun, April 28, 2019 10:17 AM

My 2 year old was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in the past few weeks.  We are trying to figure out how to manage and still gettting medications under control.  I'm wondering if there are any other parents with young children that deal with this and how they manage.  I'm just looking for any way I can help my daughter.

Hi, I am a Grandfather of 9 and 7 year old beautiful girls, and feel compelled to write.
My heart goes out to both of you and your daughters.  I have had UC for 15 plus years, and I consider myself one of the lucky ones.
I know the extend of pain and suffering it can bring, mine turned sever about 12 years ago.  I was able to get through the flare with the help of a great GI doctor and a combination of meds (remicade infusions, prednisone, Imuran and Apriso) and was able to keep my colon.
It took months before I felt better and years before my colon completely healed via colonoscopy. I have not had a flare since.
I have stayed in remission for 10 years on Imuran and Apriso, but after some health issues I felt were brought on by the medications weakening my imune system I decided to research milk kefir and it's effects on the gut and my immune system.
It has completely changed my life.
I no longer take Imuran only Apriso. I have read about others who take Probiotic VSL#3 for UC and have seen it written online helping in conjunction with Apriso for mild UC.
Milk Kefir has the same probiotics as VSL#3 plus many more.
I began drinking grocery store kefir and after feeling it's benefits I decided to research making my own Milk Kefir.
If you would like any information I would love to share what I have learned about Milk Kefir.
I have many family members as well as my two year old granddaughter that Loves Kefir!!!  It is good for anyone not only those with IBD.
Research the benefits of Kefir.
I hope your daughters are doing well and please feel free to reach out to me.  I would love to share any and all information I have with you both.

Hi. I am sorry for your child’s diagnosis. My daughter (9 yrs) was diagnosed with mod/severs UC a week ago. She did not respond to the steroid, and today was her first Remicade infusion. I am very afraid of what the future may hold - what she might have to go through. I would welcome any kind words, positive stories or general support. Thank you, Rich
