Chrons/Medical help

Mon, June 29, 2020 10:28 AM

Hello my name is Louis and I been dealing with Chrons for about 5 years. It's really put a strain on me mentally and physically. There been periods of time I miss work for weeks at a time. It sucks because the doctors don't know the cause of it. About a month ago I got bowel construction surgery and I didn't have the best of insurance which I let the doctors know. About a few days ago I got a bill for over 100k and I was wondering how do I get assistance because there's no way I will be able to pay it

So sorry you are having to go through this additional stress. The first thing to try to do is to understand exactly why you are being sent so much of the bill and try to work with your insurance company to appeal.

this post has some general ideas: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.healthsherpa.com/blog/what-to-do-health-insurance-wont-pay/amp/

t
his post has more specific step by step approaches: https://thecollegeinvestor.com/21732/disputing-medical-bill/

t
his post lists some charities/organizations that may help, I would also be searching for local non-profits on your area that either 1) may help with medical costs not covered by insurance or 2) may help provide legal advice to dispute/appeal/negotiate medical bills: https://cameronscrusaders.org/amazing-charities-that-help-with-medical-bills/

insurance payments issues are easier to resolve before treatment is resolved. I mention that because it sounds like you tried to do that, and so I would definitely make sure you try to document all the conversations you had (include specifics of who with, what you said and they said, and when/date) while you remember as much as possible, as well as saving any written communications. That may help you demonstrate that you had tried to follow the correct processes and dispute or appeal the billing outcome.
