Hi! I am 36, female, 5'3" 230 lbs. I'm active but I do not exercise. I'm here to find out some avenues to continue on this journey. I was dx with Microscopic Colitis about a year ago, and have been taking Budesonide (3 a day) and was taking Dicyclomine. My GI wanted me to wean off since my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I weaned down to 2 Budesonide a day and 0 Dicyclomine. Things had been going fairly well, but about a week ago, I was vomiting constantly, had diarrhea and was in so much pain. The pain happened every 15 seconds or so and lasted for at least 5 seconds. I was in so much pain and screaming my husband called an ambulance. Once at the hospital I was given zofran, morphine, and fluids. They tested my blood and also did a scan of my stomach. The doctor came back and told me that I was " having colitis right now " I said I was confused because I do have microscopic colitis ( which I had told them in the beginning) But she kept telling me You have colitis. I asked her if this was a flair because I had never had a flare up this excruciating or this bad ever! But that's all she kept saying. The next morning another doctor called me and told me that I have IBD. And then I need to see a GI doctor which I already do so I told him that as well, and also told me that I have an infection in my colon. I was prescribed zofran as well as metronidazole when I left the hospital to be on the safe side because the doctor then was not sure if I had an infection or not. I do have an appointment set up with my GI doctor but they couldn't get me in for a few more weeks. I am obviously concerned and wanted to know if anybody else has ever gone through this? The pain was so bad I've never felt that in my entire 36 years of life. I will do anything to make sure that this never happens to me again. I just am so unknowledgeable about this disease and side effects of it as I've only been doing research for about a year and have no one else to confide in. Thank you so much for listening and I hope everybody else is having a very unstressful day.

Did they manage to tell you what infection you had even with microscopic colitis you will still have flares you have microscopic colitis, the cells in your intestinal lining are irritated. The result is most commonly frequent, watery diarrhea. As with all chronic conditions, microscopic colitis may come and go. It may flare up in reaction to certain triggers, then subside on its own, and then return. While it's a lifelong condition, it's usually manageable with medical treatments.

Hi, I am sorry the ER doctors did not seem to adequately address your concerns. I don't know if you already had your appointment, but vomiting and intense pain are two signs of a possible blockage which can be quite serious and I would mention that to your doctor when you see them. I hope you are able to get your questions answered!
