Living in Europe temporarily

Sat, April 27, 2019 8:40 PM

I have a wonderful opportunity to live in Spain for just under a year with my family. So many things are falling into place, except health insurance! As a person with Crohn's disease, if I can't get it, we can't go. I am looking at everything I can find. If anyone has ideas, I would love to hear them!

Here's what I have investigated:
1) Current US insurance --> emergency only
2) Spanish public insurance --> Not available to non-EU citizens until after 1 year of residence
3) Spanish private insurance (multiple) --> declined
4) Travel insurance --> emergency only
5) International health insurace (multiple) --> declined

Another factor - Remicade. In the US there is a program called Janssen Carepath that provides financial assistance for the medication. Is there anything like that in Europe? I know Remicade is a lot cheaper in Europe, but it's still expensive!

Isn't there something like a high-risk pool in Europe? Association group health plan here in the US? I had expected that I would have to pay more for insurance, but I didn't expect that it wouldn't exist!

Thank you!

Living temporarily in Europe brings a myriad of experiences and considerations, including health concerns unique to the region. In some European countries, the prevalence of Lyme disease prompts a diverse range of preventive measures and treatments, including homeopathy. Exploring homeopathic remedies for lyme disease homeopathy during your stay can be a part of the broader approach to safeguarding against tick-borne illnesses prevalent in certain European regions. While homeopathy remains a subject of debate regarding its efficacy in treating Lyme disease, being aware of local health practices, including alternative treatments, ensures a well-rounded approach to maintaining health and well-being while residing in Europe temporarily.

Living in Europe offers a diverse and enriching experience, as the continent boasts a tapestry of cultures, histories, and landscapes. From the vibrant cities of Paris and Berlin to the charming villages nestled in the Italian countryside, Europe provides a unique blend of modernity and tradition. Each country has its own distinct flavor, and residents often find themselves navigating not only linguistic diversity but also a myriad of local customs. Additionally, practical aspects of daily life, such as managing finances, may involve unique elements like obtaining a Portuguese NIF for those residing in Portugal. Despite the differences, a common thread of shared values and a commitment to cultural exchange runs through the European tapestry, making it a captivating and dynamic region to call home.

Depending on your nationality and the purpose of your stay, you may need a visa Watermelon Game or residence permit to live in Europe. Research the specific requirements and apply well in advance.

I would love an update. I’m currently exploring the same. Been on Remicade since 2005 and want to retire abroad.   TIA

Hi there!

I hope you are well.

Were you able to get any answers to your questions?

I'm on the same boat as you are and haven't been able to find anything that addresses concerns. Any information you can share would be highly appreciated!

Thank you so much!
