Hi everybody, I take mesalazine for ulcerative colitis and am considering residency in Mexico. The general impression I'm getting is that private health companies here don't cover prescriptions and travel insurance will automatically deny you for a preexisting condition. So I'm hoping the state healthcare system could be a way to cover prescription costs, after establishing at least temporary residency. Does anyone have any experience with this process, specifically with what system can cover what? Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the reply! Sorry it took me so long to check back here.
Do you mean the insurance system in Italy? Or are you a resident of Mexico who was able to use your insurance internationally? Glad nonetheless to hear that it worked out.

Hello,
I am currently studying in Italy for a year. I am technicially a resident and was able to join the national health insurance program for the year. This has been a great option for me as I get Humira cheaper. It was very frustrating bureaucratic process in Italy, but very much worth it because it was the cheapest option and easiest as I can go to the local hospital pharmacy and obtain my medication. I had also looked into travel insurance, but I didn’t apply because none of them will accept someone with a preexisting condition like UC. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
