Treatment with Budesonide

Sat, April 21, 2018 12:10 AM

Hello, two years ago i had a colonoscopy that came Inconclusive but a later MRE showed inflammation in the jejunum, distal jejunum, and terminal ileum. i was given Budesonide for three months and took a capsule endoscopy that came back with no sign for crohns. after a year of quite i started to eat less and have stomach aches . this weeks capsule endoscopy showed mild inflammation in the terminal ileum. my question is can i treat my crohns by once a year taking a round of budesonide or do i have to take Imuran with it?
plus I'm worried about the connection of Imuran with skin cancer and lymphoma is there any other option for me?
Thank you in advance!

Budesinide is generally safer than prednisone because it is more targeted to the colon, and has less side effects. That said, it sometimes doesn't work as well, even for someone with UC as I do. Also if I'm not mistaken, if you are having problems with your small intestine, I don't think it can help there, since it only affects the colon.
