PSA: What do you call alternative medicine that has been proven to work?

Tue, May 22, 2018 6:54 PM

That's just called medicine. Which means it ceases to be alternative medicine, which means alternative medicine has not been proven to work, and more than likely does not work. Dealing with IBD is difficult, and the fact that it isn't very well understood or universally treated equally makes the maze that much harder to navigate. I just felt an obligation to remind fellow patients that alternative medicine is not an appropriate treatment for IBD, especially if it's used in place of actual medicine. If you feel your medicine isn't working well enough, talk to your doctors about other kinds of medical therapies. There are more available now than ever, and the risks are very small to nonexistent.
