Biologics and J-pouch

Wed, February 20, 2019 12:46 PM

I was diagnosed with UC 16 years ago, had a total colectomy surgery and reversal 11 years, but last year I was official diagnosed with Crohn's. I opted to have surgery becuase I was initially diagnosed with UC and not Crohn's, but not I'm having issues again. Pretty much the worse case scenerio for me. I was steriod dependent for many years, so quick fixes like Prednisone isn't a long term option for me and 6MP is ineffective. My doctor is saying I need to go on biologics now. I actually opted for surgery 11 years ago instead of going on biologics, so I'm a little fearful of the side effects and lifelong treatment. I haven't found much info on how patients with a j-pouch (post surgery result) is affected by biologics. I need to choose one soon and have been given the suggestions of Entyvio, Remicade, Humira and Stelara. Has anyone with a j-pouch needed to go on biologics and how has it affected you or someone you know?

I’ve got a j pouch and have been on remicade and entyvio for four years now.  I’ve not had any bad side effects except for psoriasis. I’ve had that for years off and on, but now I’ve got it all over my body and the itching is driving me nuts. I read psoriasis was a side effect of remicade
