Experience with 6MP

Mon, April 08, 2019 10:29 PM

After my most recent colonoscopy showed colitis in both my ascending and descendinga colon, and in my sigmoid colon and rectum, my gastro has prescribed 6MP. The objective is to take that drug alone. He is starting me at 75 mgs a day. I’m 65, was first diagnosed 15 years ago. Can anyone share their experiences with this drug? Thank you.

I have been taking Entocort for years and my GI insisted I need to get off.   He urged me to try 6MP and I finally gave in but told him I would only take 50 mg. instead of 100.     I saw slight improvement so he ordered a blood test to evaluate whether or not my body was getting a therapeutic dose or not.  It showed I wasn't even close, so I agreed to up my dosage to 75 mg. a day.    That really seemed to do the trick - my colitis has been very manageable since I've been on the higher dose.    I still take ONE 3 mg. Entocort a week, just as a safety buffer, but that seems to make me anxious so I may try giving it up.

Hope it works as well for you as it does for me!
