Newly diagnosed deciding on treatment options

Thu, January 23, 2020 6:54 PM

I was very recently diagnosd wth Crohns (small bowel) and the doctor has asked that I reivew and select a treatment option.  His recommendation is either Budeonide or Entyvio. Other options discussed were Stelara, Humira, and Remicade.
I would greatly appreciate hearing about peoples experiences with any or all of these treatement options (pros, cons, etc.).  Thanks in advance.

Hi,
My 26 year old daughter (Crohns diagnosed '18) was on Remicade for a year and biggest side effect was weight gain, 30lbs. After a year she was moved on to Humira because Remicade only improved her Small Intestine ulcers by 50% and she also developed perianal fistulas. Now after 3 months on Humira she is having a lot of digestive issues and her inflammatory markers are high so they want to switch her to Entyvio. Bottom line for her was Remicade infusions were fine for her except for the weight gain, Humira is easier to use and no side effects except it isnt working. Best of luck to you .

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnoses. I have been living with Crohns for about 8 years now. When I was first diagnosed, they put me on Asacol. (Discontinued now) I had an allergic reaction to it so after that it was prednisone and Remicade. Then after a couple months just Remicade. I was on Remicade for 4 years. It worked miracles for me. So far, that and prednisone seem to be the only things that my body responds too. I started Remicade in 2014 and was on it until 2018. I had no stomach issues or anything close to a flare at all while I was on it. The only thing that kind of sucked was that it's an infusion so every 8 weeks I would have to miss work and go into the infusion center and sit for 4 hours. I've been off of it for a couple years now and just recently had a flare but because I had to be on antibiotics (which always for some reason make me have a flare up) I'm hoping I can try Remicade again and that it'll work just as well the second time around. Hope this helps!
