Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried Activia yogurt and if so, what was your reaction to it?
I have UC and one of my coworkers suggested that I try it so I did. I didn't do too much research on it and just figured that it might help since it was a digestive thing.
Less than 2 days after eating it I got a wicked bad stomachache all day long, and then the next day I again had an awful stomachache, this time with more bad bms than usual for me.
I am not sure that the yogurt caused it, but its the only thing that I can think of that would. I keep a food journal and I havent tried any new foods lately except for this. I was just wondering if anyone experienced something like this so that I could ease my mind a little. I thought for sure I was getting a flare up, but luckily I am feeling better today.
Thanks for your help!

I have had regular yogurt too and have been totally fine with it, so when I felt sick at first I didn't know what it was because I keep track of what I eat and I hadn't tried anything new. It just didn't agree with me I guess.

Hi! I also have UC(27+years) and am out of meds...just finished an allergic reaction to Remicade and trying out the no meds. I have tried Activia a couple of times and it really upset my stomach. The funny thing is I can have regular yogurt! I take the Ultra Flora Plus DF(from a physician only) as I think someone else said. The first day and a half I couldn't move, but I called my doctor after taking gas x to help settle it down a little and now I can tolerate it no probs...2 caps a day.
Good Luck!

I already take a probiotic called culturelle that works pretty well for me. I thought that the activia yogurt would work too since I was told it had a bunch of probiotics in it, but maybe one of the other ingredients made me sick. Feel better soon!

I do not have a lot of experience with knowing the disease and what is best or not...... funny is that I am a nurse. I have been dealing with the disease and suspecting that Crohns was what it was for 5 years or more. Most probiotics havent seemed to offer me much help but I just finished another serving of Activia prior to reading your post. So far it hasnt seemed to make my symptoms worse and though it is probably to early to tell it isnt helping either. Today is the third day I have had to call off work sick from the pain and the nausea. I am still awaiting the results of my Serology labs. I would be interested in knowing what probiotics work best for others as so far capsule forms and yougurts so far havent helped and well maybe they have irritated me some in the past.

I have heard various opinions on Activia.......either people love it or hate it. However, when you have a "special belly", as I refer to it w/my daughter, you have to take special care. We do not follow SCD, though many have wonderful results, so I do not make yogurt here at home. I do buy Yo-Baby Organic. It is made w/whole milk, which is agreeable for my daughter (she does not have an intollerance to lactose) and all the other ingredients are organic. It may be another option for you. Good luck.

The ingredients are not good for IBD but I also found that most probiotics made me feel terrible and even vomit when my uc was at it's worst. Now, after 4 years on scd they help.
With hindsight I think that I had very bad gut bacteria/overgrowth when I started and the probiotics were only able to help once the diet had controlled the overgrowth. Also, a course of antibiotics I took for earache improved the uc before I changed my diet but now antibiotics tend to make the uc flare a little and I think this is probably because of the change in gut bacteria and the effect the antibiotics have on this.
It is really worthwhile making your own scd sugar-free yoghurt and trying the diet.

I probably should have read the ingredients before I ate it. Like I said, I kind of just grabbed it based on a suggestion. I have only had UC for about 2 months and am still having a hard time always remembering to think before I eat certain things. I learned the hard way, that's for sure!
Thanks for your help though.

My husband doesn't have IBD but he had a bad reaction to Activia yogurt. He went online and found pages of people that had a reaction to it.
My daughter has UC. She is on azathioprine and lialda. She also takes a probiotic called Ultitmate Flora Critical Care 50 billion which helps her. Her IBD specialist said lots of UC patients have bacteria overgrowth and that probiotic seems to help. Also stay away from foods that create sugars which would create bacteria overgrowth. My daughter stays away from junk foods, processed foods.
