just a few thoughts.
you liver process alcohol, as well as medication. Depending how much medication you are on, depends on how careful you should be with alchol.

I used to drink a lot (and anything, beer, wine, liquor) and it never made me feel sick or anything like that with Crohn's. Recently I've cut back considerably on what I drink though, because I noticed a distrubing side effect - a fistula that I have would become inflamed and would drain following heavy drinking. If that was happening externally I don't want to think about what this was doing to the areas I can't see...

I generally tend to stay away from alcohol all together. That doesn't mean I won't have a drink every once and a while though. I just have to plan carefully when I drink because I know I'll be paying for it the next day. Personally, I've grown tired of feeling sick after I drink, so I've stopped drinking. You know your body and your limits, just be careful!

Anything in moderation is OK... I drink on occasion, but depending on what medication you are on, like any other medications, some don't do well with alcohol. I have to listen to my own body and symptoms to know what I can and cannot do, eat or not eat... which has been working for me for over 30 years... This disease is a "grin and bear it" disease... you have good and bad days like any other... you cannot dwell on it too much, it can control your life... don't let it.

6-mp has been really good for me and I can handle some wine or a beer on occasion pretty well. But I pay dearly for hard liquor. Personally, as long as it's in moderation I'm fine having some. But getting trashed isn't worth the pain. I think it's better to be safe than sorry.

I am glad to see I am not the only one that drinks w/IBD. I overindulged last week-end with wine and I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I just got over a bad flare and a hospital stay 3wks prior. The next day I could not believe I was sooo stupid!!! I won't be testing those waters for again anytime soon.
Just being Dx w/Crohns is stressful. Alcohol+Stress do not mix well with Crohns for me. Be careful.

I'm one of the lucky few that alcohol does not bother in the least. And that has been with 15 years of when being diagnosed. I do try however to avoid the girly drinks which are loaded with sugar. I have them sometimes but not a regular type of drink for me. I also drink a ton of water before going to bed if I have been out indulging to help flush my system. Beer doesnt bring me out of remission but it does make my intestines get somewhat inflamed. So you may want to avoid that too.

I am a heavy drinker and my condition is sensitive to alcohol. Even
after going through some pretty tough times with UC, I continued to
test my limits. I ended up with a flare that put me in the hospital and
on Remicade. I barely made it out without surgery.
If you already drink and have never had problems from it, I wouldn't say you need to stop. Just be careful, and if you ever notice problems from drinking, stop or significantly cut back. Alcohol is what triggers me most, but other people seem to be okay with it. I also have heard that beer bothers people more than other types of alcohol.

My adivice would be to stay far away from alcohol, anytime i've ever had a few beers or a couple shots I soon paid for it with a pretty bad flare up and sometimes blood in the stool.

I have had mixed results. I have had margaritas at a party and by the time I got home I was nauseaus and cramping, but then I've gone out with friends and had a beer or a glass of wine and felt fine. I had a nutritionist tell me that I should stay clear away from beer because of the yeast and red wine would actually be really good for me.
