Was wondering if leg cramps are a problem for any of you out there. For the last several years I have suffered from severe leg cramps. It finally dawned on me that it could be from the diarrhea and the loss of fluids an IBD patient experiences when in a flare. My daughter is a Registered Dietitian and recommended a product for me to replace my fluids and the electrolytes. I have seen it on the CCFA site in an advertisement. I have been using it now for 3 months and what a difference! I don't think IBD patients are as aware as they need to be about dehydration and the side effects we suffer as a results of the fluid loss.

Hi NorthStar. We share all 3 of those conditions that you mentioned. The Ankylosing Spondylitis was the first thing to show up with me in my 20's before the Crohn's was diagnosised. Hope you are doing well considering all that you must endure.
I found something for the leg cramps that is working. It is from Caleb Treeze Organic Farm, Proven Old Amish Formula, STOPS LEG & FOOT CRAMPS. It's pure apple cider vinegar and all-natural ginger and garlic juice. It is amazing!! Got it off the 'net.
Thanks for responding.

I have mild leg cramps. I have Crohn's Disease, anemia, and Ankylosing Spondylitis (an inflammatory arthritic condition that is related to Crohn's and has autoimmune causes).

Have your hemoglobin checked. I get leg cramps from being anemic.

I believe that my Crohn's/IBS/Interstitial Cystitis is the reason that my knees have progressively become worse. I see an orthopedic surgeon on Thursday to see what can be done to the damaged cartilage in both knees. This has been plaguing me since I first started the Crohn's journey over 2 years ago. I will not be surprised to hear that I could have Osteoarthritis along with the Grade II Chondromalacia. The body and organs, muscles, etc., are so woven together, when one is hurting, it passes it along.
I have been on Percocet for the better part of two months now, and my doctor almost had a cow when he realized I was still on them. But if I don't take them, I simply can't walk. And I am only taking 1/4 of one every 4-5 hours. I cannot take any anti-inflammatory medication because of my gut condition. Tylenol is an option but sparingly.
Some doctors will prescribe a mild muscle relaxer to take in the evening which helped me out when I had issues with my legs and depression back in 1999. I can't take them now, again, because of the condition of my insides.
Herbal teas, chamomille and one other, can't think of the name of it, may also help relax the body.
