hi all! I have had colitis for over 15 years, and have avoided gluten for the most part even though i was never diagnosed with celiac disease. I was told back in the day that not eating gluten is helpful for colitis with diarrhea and keeps symptoms down.. i am now to the point where im wondering whether i could go back to eating normal but im scared to bring it back into my diet...does anyone else have a good luck eating gluten free.. im having a hard time trying to figure out if it actually helps some days.. let me know =)

I have been Gluten-Free for nearly a year now and it definitely makes me feel better! I am not sure about its direct effect on flare's, however, I have much less bloating and gas. I also have more energy. I think it is definitely worth sticking with. Good Luck and best of health!

Hi
Just wanted to share my experience. I did the gluten free diet after I was told I had a sensitivity to it but tested negative for celiac. It has worked for me and I cheat periodically. I know if I've gone too far and have to quit the gluten if I start to become too gassy. No flares for over two years and no medication except herbal. First diagnosis in 1999. Tried lots of things and medications. Predisone worked but not much else. I also do not take any asprin, ibuprofin or naproxin products. I tried to use them as a normal person would and had a flare within a week. Took a lot longer to get rid of it.

ive been gluten free (scdiet) for 3 months with no symptoms. I was in the middle of a flare when i started the diet and it stopped it in a matter of days. I'm in the same boat you are right now because I feel like I could cheat on the diet atleast a couple days a week and get away with it, but im too scared to try it!

Hi:
I'm not considered Celiac, however, I am gluten sensitive. When I cut back on gluten, I have less gas and a formed stool. While most Crohn's patients are lactose intolerant, there are some of us who are gluten intolerant. If you've been gluten free, you may have some issues when you go back to gluten. I'd say start slow and keep a diary of what you eat and the reaction it has caused. Good Luck, Marilyn
