Nerves are shot!

I was diagnosed back in 1986 with UC that affected my lower left side of my colon and rectum. Periodically I experience flares, last one being in the rectal area only with bleeding due to a tear. I am experiencing symptoms now that involve a good deal of gas on and off with accompanying tightness across my entire upper part of my abdomen.

I have no diarrhea or constipation but at times go to the bathroom 3 to 4 times a day, mainly when I've eaten more than I am used to eating at a meal, I've cut back a good deal trying to lose weight.. I have no urgency feelings and never have a problem with feeling like I have not finished afterwards. With this go round I am experiencing some slight pelvic cramping also. I am having some other health issues which could be responsible partly also. Wondering if anyone else on this board has had any sensations like this themselves with their colitis??? My stress levels from this are awful. I stay knotted up in my upper part of my gut which I feel is 3/4 responsible for my abdominal tightness. I experience these types of episodes about 3 or 4 times a year.

I like to consume fiber to make sure I stay regular but cannot take a fiber supplement as it gasses me up even more, I know that is normal but it is something that raises my anxiety even more. And I've noticed I cannot tolerate higher fiber foods much either, like the lima beans and corn I have consumed in past years. I first started taking Azulfidine for my colitis and used Rowasa enemas. I was then switched to Asacol 400mg. There was a two year period I was on no medication and had no problems. My doctor put me back on Asacol 400mg 2 pills 2X a day last year for maintenance purposes only. I am on Protonix 40mg for reflux and use 1000mg Canasa suppositories every other day.

I would be interested in hearing from other people, especially ones that have experienced this. I see my gastro doctor again July 17th for a followup.
