Hi, my son will have his first of two surgeries this Tues. He is only 12 but has suffered with UC for 4 years and has tried all meds, but his UC is too aggressive so nothing worked...not even Humira. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for a child going through the surgery. He will have the j-pouch created and then his 2nd surgery to reconnect is end of May. We had to take him out of school and homeschool. I am worried about quality of life with the bag...any suggestions? TIA

Hello,
I'm 22 and I had the bag for 2 years when I was 19 and 20 and now have a k pouch. I've had Crohn's since I was 6 and I'll gladly talk to your son or you if you need any information or advice! Or if he just wants someone who understands! Please feel free to email me at caitwith9lives@hotmail.com or just to talk on here!

Hello. I hope your son is doing ok. I just joined hoping to connect with parents and others who are going through similar situations. My son is 12 also. Diagnosed with UC in January 2014. Was admitted with acute pancreatitis, diagnosed within two weeks with IBD, came down with c-diff in hospital, UC wasn't responding to anything. Complete colectomy in March. He is expected to have a j- pouch and be reconnected in a few months. I don't have advice at this moment but I just wanted to reach out and say I know it's really hard and I hope your family is hanging in there. We have been out of the hospital for just over a week and we are all still slowly adjusting. Take care.
