anal fistula plug

Thu, April 09, 2009 2:13 PM

I was diagnosed with Crohns/colitis in 2007 when I developed an abcess that turned into a fistula.  Since than I have had 6 proceedures(colonoscopies, fistula surgeries, temporary colostomy), Remicade treatments, and am currently taking 6mp, but the fistula will not heal.  My doctor wants me to get an anal fistula plug to help the healing process.  Has anyone gotten one?  What should I expect and how long is the healing process?  I am scheduled for May to have it done, so any information would be appreciative.

What's a plug?  I had to have a fistulotomy or fistulectomy, I'm not sure what it was called, but they had to cut it open to drain.  I recall it taking about a year to heal.  If I hadn't been on remicade at the time, I don't think it would have ever healed. Its such a tough location to heal.  Good luck.
