My son's starting Remicade in a week

Thu, November 20, 2014 10:30 PM

My son was diagnosed with UC at 16.  He was in remission until he turned 18, but the last 3 years have been very difficult.  Despite his greatest efforts, his only option at this point is Remicade.

I know Adam's immune system is going to be compromised during treatment.  I'm wondering how other families have dealt with illness in the family.  My 16 year old currently has a low grade fever and a cough.  I can't ship him off somewhere until he's better, but I know my 21 year old really shouldn't be exposed.  Any ideas?

Thank you for the good advice - I have four children, so once one is sick, that's basically what I do - laundry (especially bedding), boil toothbrushes, Lysol doorknobs and handles, don't spread the germs 101 training among the troops...  I'm just so stressed I'm having a hard time thinking practically.  The stakes feel much higher.

I'm glad you are doing well on Humira.  smiley

Educate the kids, lots of hand washing, covering sneezes, basic things.  I'm not on Remicade, but am on Humira which also lowers your immune system.  I also Lysol door knobs and air out bedrooms during these winter months especially.  Good luck in keeping the germs away!
