Hi, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis for 7 years. for the whole time I've had it its basically been a constant stuggle for me. My husband and I have decided to try and have a baby, but I'm worried about how pregnancy will affect my disease. I'm currently on Humira. Any other women been pregnant with UC? How does this affect you?

You should discuss your family planning with your GI - they may ask for a consultation with a high risk ob/gyn. I've recently been put on Humira, my kids are now 18 and 14, but there is a huge risk while on Humira, the research simply has not been recorded with usage in various stages of pregnancy. You are smart to educate yourself before taking such a huge step. Good luck!

I had a child after I had UC for three years. I was on Asacol at the time. The main thing I was told was to make sure you aren't flaring at the time you concieve. If you are flaring at the time, it will hard to come out of the flare while you are pregnant. I had no problems during my pregnancy and even after I was fine. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with UC when I was 28. I was 5 months pregnant. My daughter is now 13. She is going through similar symptoms of UC minus the bloody stool. I have taken her to the dr. and what they have suggested is that it might be menstrual symptoms (got her period about 4 months ago) so i kind of waited it out. Her period came and went and she is still experiencing stress, stomach pain, anxiety, more frequent trips to the bathroom etc. I am a bit scared to take her to the GI...i know that i must though. I am currently on Asacol and when i go through flare ups i do the enemas for faster result. Flare up symptoms decrease immediately. I have a 1 1/2 year old and hoping to get pregnant here soon. (my clock is ticking) my GI said that Asacol is not harmful for the baby but that the enemas were a definate no. I know it's a scary feeling; you want to have a family but at the same time you don't want to pass on something that is harmful to your kids. But I am here to tell you to cast your fears onto whatever gives you faith. I am Christian, so my strength comes from my Lord :) don't be afraid, you will be ok. I hope that i answered your questions.
Looking to see if anyone else is dealing with li....
