Has anyone gotten pregnant while experiencing a moderate UC flare up?? I know it is best to wait until you are in remission before getting pregnant but accidents do happen and I was wondering if anyone has gotten pregnant during a flareup ???

I have been doing some reading on the Internet and have recently come across some studies that show a high correlation between mothers with UC and having a child with autism...have you guys heard of this link??? I am so nervous and not aware of this potential risk?!?

Hi I am! My previous Dr. didn't warn me about having UC or Crohns and getting pregnant. Knew i wasn't preventing a pregnancy from occurring either! When I first got pregnant we didn't know. I had a flare at that time but it cleared up on it's own. Now Im entering my third trimester and I have been in a flare for 5-6 weeks and am just now getting help because I switched doctors. I never have a lack of appetite and I haven't lost any weight I've gained 10 lbs so far through the 28 weeks. However, Im super lucky they have now put me as high risk so that we can see our man every 4 weeks to make sure his growth is on tract which it is. My new GI specialist is involving ALL my doctors, my OBGYN and my OBGYN specialist. They put me on prednisone for now which all three practices have agreed will be okay for the baby and my current GI is also contacting a doctor of research and practice at UCSF who is leading research in UC and Crohns around the world so I feel good. I just wish someone had told me more about all this and I wold have waited to get pregnant even though we are so happy. My suggestion make sure all your doctors are working as a team and frequently checking your babies weight and growth to make sure things are on target. Also you should be safe for a vaginal delivery UNLESS you have any flare up indications or vaginal or anal inflammation when it comes to delivery...if that occurs do not let them deliver you vaginally you will want a c-section for YOUR safety. Also if you are concerned about vitamin levels or anemia just have them run a CBC panel to check things.
Looking to see if anyone else is dealing with li....
