Hi, I hope somebody can help. I've been advised to try taking the combined contraceptive pill because my Dr believes that hormonal changes during ovulation may exacerbate my colitis symptoms. I am reluctant to take this pill because in the past, I have tried several brands of the pill & each one of them gave me really bad diarrhoea, nausea & bloating (this experience was in 1992 , years before I became unwell with colitis. I wasn't diagnosed with ibd until December 2008). My diagnosis is suspected early stages of crohn's disease / microscopic colitis. I've been taking steroids, anti - inflammatories & antispasmodics for months & months but I'm still really struggling with this. The pain is unbearable at times. Can anybody offere any advice please? Thanks.

I have been taking Yasmin for six years now and it has been a life saver when it comes to dealing with colitis and your cycle. For the last two years before I started taking Yasmin I was out of school two-three days each month. The combination of the colitis and my period caused cramps that were so painful that I would often black out, heavy bleeding, I could literally not stand up because of the massive cramping, I always vomited and had diarrhea. This happened every single time every single month. The next day I was pretty useless as well because my body was so weak. Once I started taking yasmin, my periods became light and I rarely cramp. It is truly a God send. I will admit my colitis still gets a tad aggravated but NOTHING like before. Hope my situation helps you a little! :)

I am currently on Yasmin which I think is the best birth control to be on. I don't know if it's been giving me the diarrhes I don't really think it is. Also if you are on entocort i was told that you can bleed more with that medication. I haven't bled at all but the doctor told me it thins the blood to where you do bleed more.

Thanks, I'll look into that as an option.

Just an idea, but maybe a low dose to control your ovulation, like the Mirena.
I don't have any experience with ovulation effecting my UC, but I will keep a look out from now on. However, I have had the Mirena IUD because of other symptoms with birth control and I had absolutely no hormone induced symptoms with Mirena. Just an idea if you need an extrememly low dose of hormone and ovulation control. Hope this helps some, I know it's not exactly what you were looking for.
