I want to get pregnant in a couple of months, but I am uncertain if I want to stay on my Humira while pregnant. My doctor assures me that it is safe, but I worry about short and long term effects for the child. My doctor tells me that I can choose to quit my Humira while pregnant but I have a history of having terrible flare ups that can put me into the hospital with possibilities of surgery which could likely lead to miscarriage. Has anyone taken Humira during pregnancy and know of any effects?

I know it's hard to know what to do in these situations, since these drugs are pretty new to the world and not tested much. My doctor also told me that Humira is safe in pregnancy and doesn't cross the placenta, so I went ahead with it.
I hope it helps you to know that I was on Humira for a total of 5 years, through not one but TWO pregnancies. My son is now almost 4 years old and my daughter is 15 months old. Neither one of them has had any single side effect from my having taken Humira throughout the pregnancy. Not ONE. In fact, my son has never even been on antibiotics in his young life, as he's never had anything wrong with him! Not an ear infection, not a respiratory infection, NADA. (Which is pretty crazy when you think about it, and probably has nothing to do with Humira.) Of course he's had a few colds like all kids get, but that's it. My daughter has also been perfectly healthy so far as well. They were both ahead of the scale in terms of development and are of average height and weight... so there appear to have been no complications!
I realize there are no guarantees, but have to tell you that I have no doubts in my heart that my taking Humira and keeping myself healthy through pregnancy was not harmful to either of my kids. You have to do what YOU believe is right.
Best of luck!
