Ladies,
Is anyone having issues with their menstrual cycles? The only time my UC acts up is during my period. Otherwise, I have been doing well with treating my symptoms. Anyone have any ideas of what I can do to calm the inflamation during the time of the month? I dread dealing with these issues once a month.

YES! My Dr. put me on the pill, Alesse, low dose, no side effects, and it has been the best thing! Haven't had a flare during my cycle in months, I also take it easy the week of my period with food, I stick to plain pasta, rice, soups, plain food, and with being on the pill you know exactly when you are going to have it, so that week just eat smart and that should help!

I have had similar issues. My holistic doctor recommended a Progesterone Cream to ease menstrual symptoms. I used "2% Micronized Natural ProCare Skin Cream" by Syngenic last month. The cramps, bleeding and the UC irritation (almost none) were much less than the previous months (actually tolerable!). Apply cream as directed about 10-14 days before your period. I was doubtful at first but now I am a believer!

You might want to look into the uterine ablation surgery before the hyster. Much less invasive. My GI and PCP both said it probably would not make a difference having the surgery with regards to the crohns flaring at that time of the month. Had the ablation surgery and have not had a period since then. That was almost 1 year ago. I still had the monthly symptoms of pain and cramping and bloating for about 3 months and had been told that might always be the case, but they all stopped also. Best decision ever! I recommend it to all my friends now when they say they are done having kids.

I am (more than likely) about to have to have a hysterectomy because mine does the same thing. It started Christmas Eve 2009 and my crohns has flared EVERY month since then.... always within 2 days of my period.

I have the same problem and also take the vicodin. The pain is
so intense at times. Actually feeling that way today - really painful.
