uncomfortable intercourse

Tue, January 22, 2013 5:55 PM

I was diagnosed at age 14 with ulcerative proctitis which developed into full-blown UC within 2 years.
After about 8 years, all treatments for my diagnosed UC failed (asacol. enemas, steroids, 6-mp, Cyclosporine....)I had a 2-part surgery, deemed successful.  However I spent years suffering with inflammation at the entry to the pouch and was eventually diagnosed with Crohn's disease.  I am being treated with Remicade and have had a successful pregnancy with a healthy baby born by C-section. No breast-feeding allowed.  Now I am having a problem I am too shy to talk with my doctors about (sure wish my ob-gyn was a woman). Intercourse has  been uncomfortable in 2 ways.  I feel abdominal pain with thrusting and I also feel like I am sore from not lubricating.  Has anyone had similar experiences?

Thanks for sharing your difficulties with me.  I'll pass along any info I get from my gyn.....as soon as I get up the nerve and find time to see him.

hi!

You are not alone. I sometimes feel pain with intercourse too... or maybe not "pain" per se, but it's uncomfortable and certainly not pleasureable. Also, lately, and please excuse the TMI, but when I climax, I get a shooting, sharp intense pain that begins on the lower left quardrant of my abdomen starting around my pubic region and shoots upwards towards my belly button. As I'm sure you can imagine, it completely RUINS it for me. I thought it could be an ovarian cyst or something along those lines, but I went to the ObGyn and everything looked normal. So, I am left to believe it's my crohn's ugh.

Let me know if the doctor sheds some light on this topic for you! I wish I was more help besides getting in the mud puddle!

Yes, I have! And it's not fun. I have Crohn's disease and since I was diagnosed, I noticed that sex has not be fun for me. I feel an uncomfortable feeling when my boyfriend and I are having sex, it's like pressure is put on the inside of my vagina (like if you were to stick your finger inside and push down, that's where it's uncomfortable). And deep inside as well. Also, I have had the same problems with pain around the outside of my vagina. It gets really swollen and sore during and days after sex. We started using A LOT of lube and even then, it still hurts me. I have tried telling my doctor this once and she told me I wasn't using enough lube (but we used a lot)! I thought something was wrong with me, like I didn't produce enough "wetness" on my own anymore since my Crohn's disease happened. It makes me really depressed because we don't have a healthy sex life anymore because of my Crohn's disease.
