Humira & Pregnancy/Labor

Hello- I am wanting to know if anyone else has experienced being unable to receive an epidural during the birthing process due to Humira? I wasTold that my humira injections had caused so much calcification in my back that I would be unable to get an epidural. They tried 9 times might I add.

I do have moderate to mild joint pain with my crohns flares which is exacerbated with a Crohns flare. Please let me know if anyone out there has heard of this or experienced this before. I continued my Humira. Injections throughout my pregnancy and have a beautiful, happy three year old!

I was on Humira for my entire pregnancy. My OB decided as a precaution to send me to a high risk OB in addition to my regular check ups. Two days a week I would get a stress test, and ultrasound. There was never any issues and it was awesome to get to see my son grow basically week by week.
My son was born a bit small, at 6 pounds, but healthy and alert. He has had no issues to date as a result of the medications I took. He is one year old, been sick with a flu bug only once and has met all the milestones for his age.
I was unable to breastfeed, only because it was too painful, but pumped for two weeks. My Gastro as well as my OB researched the effects of Humira extensively and did not see any reason for me not to continue on the medication.
I wish you the best of luck going forward. Motherhood is a fun, exhausting but so worth it, life changing event.
Also, I was given a little tip which was, to take the sublingual form folic acid, since crohn's limits the amount of absorption in my intestinal tract. I bought mine at Trader Joes.

Hi,

Just curious did you decide to breastfeed your child? I apologize if the question is too personal. I have been on Humira for six months and plan to try to go off my birth control in the next month. My fiancee and I are getting married next month and would like to try to conceive this year. My gastroenterologist has assured me that there are no risks to continue the Humira during/after pregnancy but I am leery of risks with breastfeeding. Just curious what feedback you have received if you even considered this option.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I would say the calcification is more likely due to the osteoarthritis or something of the sort due to IBD. Never have heard of Humira causing calcified bones.

I hadn't heard of this at all. Where were you injecting the Humira? I thought the sites were either your stomach or your leg?
